Hello Residents, Rate Payers and Visitors,
I am delighted to report in after the first few months as part of the new Greater Bendigo Council as one of the Eppalock Ward Councillors.
In a whirlwind start the new council has been part of an amazing orientation and induction program organised by the City of Greater Bendigo team, in order to hit the ground running as new Councillors. It was affectionately termed “Councillor School” and as an avid life-long learner I have thoroughly enjoyed the first few months and am thrilled to be able to represent you.
I am honoured to be nominated as the Council representative to the Bendigo Tourism Board, the Lake Eppalock Land on Water Management Committee and the new Rural Communities Committee (which I am very excited to see get off the ground following the extensive work in developing the Rural Communities Strateg). As a new council we are determined to ensure our rural towns and areas are well engaged and serviced as we work hard to understand how best to build strong relationships with residents, rate payers and visitors.
Council matters stop for no one and some very exciting and important pieces of work are underway that all residents of Axedale and surrounds have a chance to get involved with. Firstly, the Community Plan. Yes, you read correctly, the Council have decided that the next four year plan will be called the “community plan” as it is your plan!
As we pull together initial ideas, drawing on recommendations from the Citizens’ Jury and other information of relevance to the whole Greater Bendigo community, we seek your ideas and input to help shape the four year plan. You can hop online to answer the survey, request a hard copy to be sent to you by calling or visiting customer service centres in Heathcote or Bendigo, join the Facebook conversations or contact Councillors direct. In February and March we will be hosting two community engagement sessions at Ulumbarra Theatre were you can get involved and be part of the live action as we develop the next Greater Bendigo Community Plan. While you are in the mood to provide feedback why not have your say on the future of public spaces in Greater Bendigo? Residents are providing some great contributions in the draft Greater Bendigo Public Space Plan Conceptual 50 Year Vision. To make it easier to learn about the plan you can access the brief summary, interactive webpage and a detailed concept vision report at https://www.bendigo.vic.gov.au/publicspaceplan
As a new council we have already had three meetings at the Bendigo Town Hall. Members of the public are welcome to attend and observe these meetings (third Wednesday of each month) in the gallery and as a new council we are pleased to have reinstated public question time. At the most recent January meeting we made the following decisions:
